I've been on a reading binge lately, doing a little research for my next book. The Monster at Water Castle (tentative title) is going to be a Gothic historical suspense, so I've been delving into lots of old Gothic novels and a few more recent books like Sarah Waters' The Little Stranger and Wendy Webb's The Tale of Halcyon Crane.
Any suggestions? I'm looking for something published within the last five years, a little dark, possibly historical.
If you're looking for Gothic, why are you trying to get something from the last five years?
ReplyDeleteGood question...it just seems like I've read a lot of 'modern Gothic' novels lately and some romantic suspense with Gothic elements...just reading in the genre and seeing what else is out there. :)
ReplyDeleteWell, if you haven't read the books that started Gothic, you should look at those. Frankenstein, Dracula...
ReplyDeleteoh yeah, those are all time favorites! I don't remember getting through The Woman in White though...I was very, very young when I tried to read it and I just couldn't get into it. Maybe now that I'm an old (um, experienced) woman, I'll try again. :)
ReplyDeleteOR, maybe it's time for me to just sit down and write the book I want to read...
ReplyDelete:)
That's always good advice.
